Eight Directions of Vastu Shastra

Eight Directions of Vastu Shastra

The entire universe rests in an endless space which has no directions. The sun, the stars and several other planets like the earth and the moon are revolving and rotating in this the real space in their respective orbits, due to their own gravitational forces Sun is a star closure to the earth and emits light and heat to the humanity whereby we are able to live and feel the presence and direction of the objects.

An intermediate direction is formed when two directions converge and make an angle. These intermediate directions are more important in the sense that they have in them the effects of both the directions which make an angle in the formation of that intermediate direction.
As per the science of Vaasthu all the eight directions have their own respective influences on the human beings.
  • North is the maternal side. If it is nor keep vacant the house will become a desert due to female mortality and remains as a house without a female member.
  • West beings progress, elevation and fame.
  • Northeast (Eesanya) ensures continuity of lineage through able male progeny. In case the northeast is cut off there can be no male children in the family.
  • East is called the paternal side. If the vacant space in east is covered completely the house becomes an ownerless property i.e. the male head of the family would die.
  • Southeast or Agneya begets health.
  • South brings prosperity, happiness and tranquility.
  • Northwest (Vayuvya) governs relations with others which may very from cordiality to hostility.
  • Southwest (Nairuthi) is responsible for attitude, behaviour and premature mortality.

A Genral observation of all the eight directions reveals the effects on the residents of the house.

HISTORY AND ORIGINS OF VASTU SHASTRA

Vastu Shastra , Vastu Origin , Vedas Vastu , Vishwakarma , Yajur veda

Vastu Shastra is a part of treasured Vedas and originates in the Yajur Veda under the section Stapatya Vidya, although the exact origins of VASTU are still debatable but as per the scriptures available it is probably dated around 4000-5000 B.C. Basic principles and reference are also found in the “Punanas”.

It is also said that Brahma created the world and then appointed Vishvakarma to develop a system of architecture in order to provide harmony and bliss to the inhabitants. Vishvakarma then studied various factors like the solar –system, water, plantations, geographical topography, Shapes, Weights etc and initiated the science of VASTU SHASTRA.

As per the data available our sages know a lot about the universe and its geo-physical effect on humans along with the mysteries of the cosmos much before the western world discovered it. And based on this study on of these systems they discovered Vastu Shastra in order to provide the maximum benefits to people living therein.

As per our Ancient Books there are originally 18 teachers of VASTU SHASTRA they are :

1)      Brahma.
2)      Narada.
3)      Vishwakarma.
4)      Maya.
5)      Kumar
6)      Nandish.
7)      Bhashapati.
8)      Vishalaksha.
9)      Purandhara.
10)  Vasudev.
11)  Garg.
12)  Sukra.
13)  Anirudh.
14)  Atri.
15)  Shaunakh.
16)  Vashishta.
17)  Brigu.
18)  Nagnajita.

Also there is a mention of Vastu in the Ramayan that the entire city of Ayodhaya was designed by Manu a leading architect in those times based on the principles of VASTU SHASTRA.

Similarly there are references to Vastu in the Mahabharta too where houses for the kings were build as per this valued science.

References of VASTU SHASTRA are found even the Buddhist literature where people were advised to consider Vastu in construction of Houses.

Even in the cities of Mohanjodaro and Harappa are based on Vastu Shastra.

The Aryans were the first to exploit the full potential of the Science of Vastu Shastra. When they occupied the India-subcontinent they fully understood the importance of our Vedas and gradually began to translate and compile the VEDAS and studied them to develop townships and houses according to the Vastu principles mentioned in the Atharvaveda and Yajur Veda.

Also from the above it is very much clear that VASTU SHASTRA is universal. It is not confined to any particular group of people or religion and is beneficial in the development of all human being irrespective of any caste, creed or religion.

VASTU SHASTRA AN INTRODUCTION

VASTU SHASTRA  AN  INTRODUCTION

Every substance in the universe radiates energy at its own specific frequencies. This energy may be positive or negative. Positive energy is beneficial and negative is harmful. Vastu shastra is the Science of Enviromental Harmony and aims at maximizing the use of Available Positive energy around us and minimise the negative energy.
Vastu Shastra is a concept of architecture which can help people make best use of space.  Having the positions of the rooms in the right place as per the Rules of Vastu  allows us to benefit  the most out of the nature and its  elements.
Vaastu is an ancient Indian science of Structural Design and Construction  that works on the principle of Panchbhootas , These Panchbhootas are the Five basic elements of Nature : Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Space.

Vaastu is a science that attempts to achieve a synergy across all the five elements in such a way that the dwelling becomes favorable to all persons living or working there .
You can use Vastu for better life with the people around you as well. Vastu promotes internal peace and calm and it can also promote harmonious relationship among the persons living in the house.

How Vastu Shastra Works

How Vastu works

Vastu works on three principles of design that cover the entire premise. The first one is Bhogadyam, which says that the designed premise must be useful and lend itself to easy application. The second is Sukha Darsham, in which the designed premise must be aesthetically pleasing. The proportions of the spaces and the material used, in the interiors and exteriors of the building - ornamentation, colour, sizes of the windows, doors and the rooms and the rhythms of projection and depressions - should be beautiful. The third principle is Ramya, where the designed premise should evoke a feeling of well being in the user.

Vastu Shastra, in addition, also says what kinds of plants and trees are good for the family residing in the building.

It is believed that if a house is built on these few rules, then that particular house will never face serious health and money problems and the family members will live in harmony.
